The Project

TransAmericans is a photography project showing portraits of transgender Americans, revealing their strength and humanity, with the images selected by the subject themselves.

Created as a not-for-profit venture, the photos will be exhibited in order to show Transgender Americans as they choose to be seen. Conceptually, the project could be viewed as the historical equivalent of the Family of Man photography exhibit in the 1950s.

Applicants for inclusion in this history project can submit up to ten photos of themselves, in PDF, JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF or RAW files. The photos do not have to be taken by themself, but must be of themself.

A panel of judges will select the final images for the project. Submission does not guarantee inclusion in the project, and it is anticipated that the judges will be highly selective in their choices.

All applicants must sign and submit a release form for the images submitted. More detailed release and legal forms will be sent if a photograph is selected.
